Chapter 7

Four hours later, after her much-needed break, Olivia kept waiting tables, clearing tables, and refilling drinks. She hadn't had the opportunity to speak with Jacque, but he had remained quiet ever since he'd waited on the silver-haired lady.

Even though Olivia known him for a few days, she knew this wasn't like Jacque to remain quiet, preoccupied while cooking.

Certainly not like him. Usually, he flashed her encouraging smiles, which sent her heart fluttering like the soft wings of a bird in flight. She and Jacque had found a rhythm over the past few days. She wondered if she might want to join her for a hike near the river's edge. She found this helped with the stress.

Summoning up the courage, she walked into the kitchen. “Jacque.”

He stopped chopping onions and green peppers. “Olivia.” He smiled.

She loved how he said her name in his silky and sexy French accent. It made her feel all warm inside like hot, melted caramel.

“Would you like?” She stammered. “Would you like to take a hike with me after work?”

“Are you asking me for a date?” Jacque’s lips quirked upwards.

Heat crept her face. “No.” She stammered on the next few words.

He bent forward, until he towered over her, and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. “I’d love to take a hike with you.” He rolled his shoulders. “It would help ease the knots in my muscles.”

“I find it a stress reliever being out in nature.” She also had found it soothing for her raging hormones demanding Jacque take her now. On the counter. On the floor. On a table.

Olivia turned because Jacque’s deep brown eyes seemed to be reading her. His index finger moved her face, so she had to look at him bending down, Jacque kissed her on the cheek. “You’re so beautiful.

Her hormones launched her from Bear Bay, Alaska, all the way to the moon.
